Griff Belser is a committed and experienced trial attorney who vigorously defends his clients in cases involving political issues, civil rights matters, corporate law disputes, business litigation, divorce, personal injury and criminal defense litigation. He attended Birmingham-Southern College where he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in History in 1997 before attending Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law. In law school, he was accepted into a summer program that allowed him to study International Law in England at Durham University.
During the last few years in private practice, Griff has earned a reputation among his clients and his peers as a dedicated trial advocate. Over the last four years, he has successfully represented various clients in six jury trials, countless administrative hearings, and several out-of-court settlement negotiations. His notable accomplishments include:
- The successful representation of Speake High School in civil rights case handled on appeal, in which he achieved a favorable settlement on behalf of his clients
- The representation of policyholders in securing adequate insurance claim adjustments after the devastation of the April 27, 2011 tornado that affected homeowners and businesses in Alabama
- The successful defense of an individual accused of a DUI in a jury trial
- The defense of individuals accused of theft, drug crimes, trafficking, assault, rape and various other felony crimes
- Representation of spouses and families engaged in family law conflicts including divorce, custody or support disputes
Griff has a practice lends itself to representing clients who find themselves confronted with strange and unique legal situations. His philosophy of legal practice is that there is no way to mass produce a lawsuit. Personal service is a prerequisite to success in court. Each client provides the litigation and factual insight needed to effectively handle the issues that arise during the course of litigation. Political campaign experience distinguishes him in his representation of elected public officials. Following law school, Griff spent seven years working as a Political Operative and Consultant. He has served as Finance Director for candidates for Mayoral Office, Alabama Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate, and Gubernatorial Candidates. He also served as Campaign Manager for a member of the Alabama Senate. His responsibilities included running political campaigns, lobbying for various issues, managing campaign strategy, and managing financial issues. His work spanned eight states and Washington, D.C.
Griff grew up in Decatur, the son of a veteran trial lawyer who set up his legal practice in the area. Through his father’s legal practice, Griff was raised to know the hard work, integrity and dedication needed to effectively help people overcome their personal troubles. Today, Griff is proud of the fact that he is able to continue in his father’s tradition by advocating for the rights of individuals and businesses the Decatur area.
